This took some doing over on the Heming-l listserv, but it was fun watching...
"The young woman is Amanda Mae Riley, then 18, of Topeka, Kansas. She is in Cuba interviewing EH for her high school newspaper, the East Topeka High "Defender" but was so excited by meeting her favorite author that she neglected to bring along a pencil. In later life Amanda Mae often made reference to her momentary encounter with the famed celebrity, and I happened to go to high school in suburban Kansas City with her younger son, Ernest "Bumpy" Riley Calhoun who, like the original Ernest, happened to lead the school's rifle team."
