My German isn't as good as it used to be but here is a very rough translations:

Lets get to the Roots: Hemingway had his own private war and bragged about how he shot a Waffen SS Soldaten in the stomach and tortured him until he died. People said as he did this 'he was glowing.'

My father translated this and said it looked lke it was written by somone not too familar with German.

Hey Larry,

Hemingway claimed to have killed a lot of Germans, but I'm not sure how to actually verify that...here's a quote from his son Jack from Denis Brian's The True Gen:

"I know my father claimed to have killed 122 ‘krauts” he called them, but I think that’s what he probably wished he had done. I suspect he killed some. His contacts with the OSS came up during the breakthrough to Paris and then anything was likely to have happened. It’s possible he did some things he claimed to have done."
