Repeat after me, "Today Is The First Day Of The Rest Of My Life," and start at it.
JOE PRACTICE® READING WRITING AND BOXING
I started this Blog because there have been three things I've been meaning to do forever and when I stumbled on this place I thought, what the hell, this is as good as any location to put thought into action.
First things first, I have been wanting to give boxing lessons for the longest time on YouTube using my Invention. You can find the videos here, on YouTube and Facebook.
Second - Reading; I want to encourage kids who are struggling with the written word how to read because of the fact that I myself spent so much of my young life not knowing how to read, I'd like to make a difference in someone’s life by encouraging them to start reading and writing. Because if it could happen to me, the despair, the shame, the hardship, the misery of missing the learning how to read boat, it could happen to anyone.
And most importantly, if you can read there is nothing you can’t do in this life. And that's fact! And I'm here to show you the way, if you need help.
The third reason for this Blog is writing. Because as you will see, as this Blog processes, writing got me over a hump with my boxing career, and at the age of (29) I was assured of being immortalized because of a few things I put on paper. But that’s a story for another time.
The first book I ever read from cover to cover was To Have And Have Not by Ernest Hemingway. I had just moved to Las Vegas with a sack of clothes and a powerful dream prepared to do whatever it took to become the Heavy Weight Champion of the World. I was just 23 in the fall of 1984, lonely with no friends and family when Ernest Hemingway's book grabbed my eye in a busy Vegas Super Market. And that’s no fiction.
So I guess you can say that that book, by some freak chance, turned a knob, opened a door, through a light, cleared a way so I could be here 25 years later prepared, willing, ready and able to pay a debt.
So far this year I've read these books, 2009.
For Whom The Bell Tolls. by Ernest Hemingway. And I give it a stronge c+. The writing was first class but the Spanish Civil War didn't blow my hair back. However, I did like Robert Jordan, Maria especially, Anselmo, Pablo and Golz also looked and sounded fine on paper. And it was a good feeling tearing through it's 507 pages in 3 weeks.
The Sun Also Rises, my second novel this year by Ernest Hemingway and I give it a Strong B. I really liked the guys, Jake,Mike, Bill and especially Robert Cohn when he snapped and knocked Mike on his ass before hitting Jake so hard he ended under the table face down fast asleep. And sexy Brett hanging with the boys jumping from spot to spot partying day and night stumbling through the Pamplona fiesta, before Cohn got his hands of Romero and knocked the crap out of him. Now that there was a party for the ages.
The book I'm reading at the moment is a collection of Short Stories by F. Scott Fitzgerald, written by Matthew J. Bruccoli. So far so good. I like Fitzgerald.
2.24.2009
I'm reading Scott Fitzgareld every day on the Train and I started listening to Learn How To Speak Spanish tapes as well. Everytime I pull out my Walk Man to turn over a tape ever soul on that train under 20 will stop and stare with a curious expression at me and my contraption. I like curious looks.

Just got back from working on the Mandarin Hotel and Condominiums in Boston. I thought that today was my last day on the job seeing as how we absolutely had to be done today, but it's been an impossible job to finish. I don't get it. Why do some people ? the really Rich, the 20 million dollar Boston Penthouse in the sky Rich. Look at me looking over all the Back Bay Boston Rich. My wife’s bathroom costs more than my house Rich. Look at my gay architects from New York City make you rip out all your fine woodwork Rich. We can't possible be satisfied Rich. We like to brag about the gays ordering the ripping out your work Rich. I'm about to be unemployed do you need any help Rich.
I've been thinking about this blog and my invention and my company Joe Practice® and my teaching people how to box and write, and my reading Scott Fitzgerald and my Babe Buth Prep team and my sons hockey team in the State tournament and my pool team and how we’ve gone from the best in the league to the worst and how I’m about to be laid off Monday and how I’m hoping and looking for another door to open when the Mandarin one closes. And I’m thinking I’m glad I’m busy. I hope it lasts.
With that being said;
Let's call these lessons, these skills, these gifts, your economic stimulus pack.
And this is what I’m going to give you in your pack.
First; I’m going to teach you how to box, that will let you defend yourself. That will get you in shape. That will give you confidence. And if you have confidence there is nothing you can’t do.
Second; I going to encourage you to read, and if you don’t know how to read I’m going to show you how and when you know how to read that will help you learn. And when you learn that will let you be a firefighter, doctor, lawyer, chef, engineer, you name it you can learn to do it.
Third; And when your doing all these interesting things and living a most spectacular life you are going to need to document it, for those who will becoming after you, if not, what a waste it would be if no one ever knew you were here.
So it goes;
Boxing; You learn how to box, you feel better, you feel better, you work better, you work better, you make more money, you make more money the country and all of us as a whole does better. Win #1
Reading; you learn to read, you learn a profession, you learn a profession, you make money, you make money, you feel better, you feel better, everyone feels better, everyone feels better, it’s a better place to live. Win #2
Writing; You learn to write, you learn how to write your own ticket, you live forever. and what could be better than that? Win #3
It's a threefurr.
No charge.

Just got back from playing Dorchester @ Dorchester. My middle son's PeeWee A hockey team just won their way into the GBL, Greater Boston League, playoffs.
There is not a better way to start a day then watching your kid's team win a competitive match and for he or she to do well.

Today’s Boxing lesson is Defense.
Self defense, what ever happens don’t get hurt defense, draw a line in the sand and do whatever it takes to not get hit defense, feel your head it’s soft defense, you absolutely have got to learn a defense if you intent to fight at any level of combat. That's a fact. If you can’t get your arms around that I suggest not ever, absolutely never ever do any fighting of any kind.
So lesson number one, the most important of all lessons, tells us this; defense is the science, defense is the true skill, defense is the most important lesson of lessons to learn.
Do whatever it takes to prefect your defensive skills and you’ll never regret it. And I'm going to show you how, real soon
Because if you don’t get hit you can’t get hurt.
What have I been up to, first its April 12, 2009 here at two thirty in the morning on the last Easter in the last single digit year in the next 992 years. 3000 doesn’t have a digit. I know, but I’ve been at an end of the year hockey party and from there over to the Elks for some last minute pool.
So what else have I’ve done, about ten instructional boxing videos and posted them on my YouTube Channel and under various titles but if you search Joe Practice you will be sure to find one on YouTube. I'm still working out faithfully, going to the gym with my friend Peter, hitting the bags at home, doing the cardio and abs and gaining weight, go figure. I'm also putting in a lot of time trying to get Joe Practice® Sporting Equipment gooding as best I know how but things are still as slow as ever, but going forward nevertheless.
I’ve managed to do some yard work since I got laid off in March and not a pit of reading, I've even ordered the Daily News and have done nothing but made sure I got all the past issues into the recycling bin on time for the pick up. My pool team is still in last place.
